Discussed Assigned Tasks

  • Angeline had done the scheduling, minutes, and merged pull requests.
  • Kate reviewed her outstanding pull request.
  • Alexa followed through with AGU and got ELSP onto the SPA page under DEI resources. This is not the best place for the link, but at least it exists. She also added to the Letter article.
  • John is waiting the NAM abstract and will poke the organizers for a response, since he has already heard about his other abstracts.

Started the Review of the Bad Non-Binary Letter

Angeline proposed starting a group review of the bad non-binary letter Mack wrote to give us all a boost on creating the training resources and creating a good version of the letter. We have established the following steps:

  1. Create a copy of the letter that will be a fixed version. You can return one or two documents to the letter writer: a required one that highlights the things to fix and provides suggestions and an optional second one that just has all the changes implemented.
  2. Read through the letter. If you find it helpful, highlight the things that jump out at you. This can be things that make you question the quality of the candidate, make you uncomfortable, are hard to read, or are just typos.
  3. Fix the typos
  4. Two options:
  • Look at the number of compliments in the original version. These will be the areas that require supporting evidence.
  • Work out ways to change back-handed compliments into real compliments
