Going to close this with the same rationale as the PR to Wagtail core - this could be a desirable change but critical to get right, and for now the corresponding RFC 44: Make "Custom models" the default is in limbo. Once that moves forward, we can resume the changes on bakerydemo. |

Brings up to date with wagtail/wagtail#5789, so should be resolved first - adding a custom image model to Bakerydemo as if it had been constructed using the post 2.9 project template.
