cgi.escape was deprecated in 3.8, but saxutils has a good replacement.

I have tried the fix and it worked fine. Please consider merging the solution (or some alternative) in order to use this library in newer versions of Python. |
There is a new pip package with this change implemented on https://pypi.org/project/simplekml2/2.0.0/ |
