### Phases in the development of an assessment process

The development of an assessment process usually goes through the following phases:

1. Investigate: where an enterprise initiates the digitisation of an assessment process, and works out whether it is worth carrying out the research and development activities.

2. Evaluate: the enterprise carries out a series of research and development activities and evaluates how successful they are. The successful solution is carried forward into the next phase.

3. Optimise: the enterprise integrates the solution into a broader assessment process and optimises the interactions between staff and Highlighter to achieve the best assessment outcome.

4. Operate: the assessment process is run in production and carried out as a Business-As-Usual activity.

Highlighter assists with organising the various research and development efforts by grouping Assessment Processes into Evaluate, Optimise and Operate processes.
