SIMRES is an application for simulation of neutron beams using Monte Carlo ray-tracing method. It has been developed for instrument scientists as a tool for realistic simulation of neutron beam characteristics, optimization of instrument parameters, planning of experiments as well as simulation of synthetic data for validation of data analysis methods. The program is designed for interactive work with a virtual neutron scattering instrument or its part constructed from a given list of beamline components. Typically, results obtained by the ray-tracing method allow to visualize and export neutron beam intensities projected onto 1D and 2D intensity maps in any of the relevant phase space variables, energy and time-of-flight. In addition detector components can be configured to provide histograms in units relevant for diffraction experiments such as scattering angles and lattice spacing.
