Why dash symbol is not allowed in sample names?

Thanks for creating vcf2db - it is super helpful!

fix_sample_name substitutes X-Y in the sample name to X_Y.

Why it is not possible to have "-" in the sample name? It breaks some downstream scripts when sample name in a vcf file is with "-" and in the database it is without "-".

Is there any workaround to keep the sample name exactly as in the vcf file?
