Description

This PR adds a new Certificates tab to the instructor dashboard, allowing course staff to view and manage learner certificates. The feature includes two sub-tabs: Issued Certificates and Certificate Generation History.

Screen.Recording.2026-03-13.at.6.23.31.PM.mov

What this changes:

  • New Certificates Page: Adds a tabbed interface for viewing issued certificates and generation history
  • Issued Certificates Tab:
    • Displays all learners in the course with their certificate status
    • Supports filtering by certificate status (received, not received, audit passing/not passing, errors, granted exceptions, invalidated)
    • Includes search functionality to find learners by username
  • Certificate Generation History Tab: Displays a history of certificate generation tasks with dates and details

User roles impacted:

  • Course Staff/Instructors: Can now view and manage certificates for all learners in their course
  • Operators: New tab is only shown when certificates are enabled for the course

Supporting information

Related to the broader instructor dashboard modernization effort in the Open edX platform.

Testing instructions

Prerequisites:

Test Issued Certificates:

  1. Navigate to Instructor Dashboard → Certificates tab
  2. Verify the "Issued Certificates" tab loads and displays learners
  3. Test search functionality by entering a username
  4. Test filtering by selecting different certificate status filters
  5. Verify pagination works correctly
  6. Test certificate regeneration:
    • Select a filter (e.g., "Granted Exceptions")
    • Click "Regenerate Certificates"
    • Confirm the modal displays correct information
    • Confirm regeneration (verify success message)

Test Certificate Generation History:

  1. Switch to "Certificate Generation History" tab
  2. Verify past generation tasks are displayed with dates and details

Test edge cases:

  • Navigate to a course with certificates disabled (should show 404)
  • Test with empty results
  • Test error handling

Best Practices Checklist

We're trying to move away from some deprecated patterns in this codebase. Please
check if your PR meets these recommendations before asking for a review:

  • Any new files are using TypeScript (.ts, .tsx).
  • Deprecated propTypes, defaultProps, and injectIntl patterns are not used in any new or modified code.
  • Tests should use the helpers in src/testUtils.tsx (specifically initializeMocks)
  • Use React Query to load data from REST APIs. See any apiHooks.ts in this repo for examples.
  • All new i18n messages in messages.ts files have a description for translators to use.
  • Imports avoid using ../. To import from parent folders, use @src, e.g. import { initializeMocks } from '@src/testUtils'; instead of from '../../../../testUtils'
