What This Is

The Mages' Alliance for Generally Intermittent Computation (MAGIC) is a non-profit association being founded under German law to research, develop, and teach responsible human–AI collaboration as a form of distributed cognition.

The Verein's purpose, in the language of its Satzung:

Der Verein soll die Förderung von Wissenschaft und Forschung sowie der Volks- und Berufsbildung im Bereich der Zusammenarbeit zwischen Menschen und KI-Systemen (verteilte Kognition) zum Zweck haben.

In practice: an open community of researchers and practitioners working out — together, in public — what genuine human–AI partnership looks like, and how to make the tools and patterns it requires freely available.

Current Status

Phase: Formation (Pre-Founding).

• Vorabprüfung of the Satzung submitted to Finanzamt für Körperschaften I, Berlin on 2026-04-08. The Finanzamt responded on 2026-05-05 with no tax-law objections to the submitted Satzung draft.
• Founding member gathering is underway. The Verein needs seven founding members. Conversations are happening one at a time.
• Gründungsversammlung will follow once seven founding members are confirmed and can gather in Berlin.
• Vereinsregister-Eintragung at Amtsgericht Charlottenburg follows the Gründungsversammlung.
• After registration: this repository will transfer to a MAGIC-eV GitHub Organization. The current malteristo/magic-ev URL will redirect.

What's In Here

• Satzung.md — the working Satzung draft for founding. Its Gemeinnützigkeit clauses have been pre-checked by Finanzamt für Körperschaften I without tax-law objections.

More artifacts will appear over time: Gründungsprotokoll once the Versammlung has happened, any Beitragsordnung if the Verein ever adopts one, annual Tätigkeitsberichte and Mittelverwendungsnachweise once operations begin, and any public reports the Verein decides to publish.

Founding Members

The Verein needs seven founding members. The Ehrenamt is intentionally minimal — members support the mission, not the operations. What a founding member commits to:

1. Genuinely supporting the Vereinszweck (research and education in human–AI collaboration)
2. Signing the Satzung and Gründungsprotokoll
3. Showing up once in Berlin for the Gründungsversammlung
4. Ideally: having seen the work, and believing it matters

Notes

This repository is the public working face of the Verein during formation. It is not, and is not held out to be, a registered Verein yet. The "e.V." appendage in the Satzung text is contingent on Vereinsregister-Eintragung; the document carries the name as it will read after registration, per Finanzamt convention.

The Satzung is offered openly for inspection, criticism, and adaptation. If you are founding a similar Verein and find the structure useful, take what helps. The text was written with reference to the Mustersatzung (Anlage 1 zu §60 AO) and to the Satzung of the Chaos Computer Club e.V., among others.
