Hey, I'm Austin

Staff Software Engineer with 12+ years of experience building full-stack web applications, cloud-native backends, and the occasional robot. I've shipped browser extensions, mobile apps, AI-native products, and revenue-generating APIs — and I've led the teams behind them.

Currently building with AI-native architectures and working across the AWS ecosystem. I like solving hard infrastructure problems and turning proof-of-concepts into production systems.

LinkedIn GitHub AWS Certified

What I'm Working With

Backend & Cloud
TypeScript Node.js NestJS AWS Terraform Docker PostgreSQL MongoDB GraphQL

Frontend
Next.js React Angular HTML5 CSS3

Testing & DevOps
Jest Vitest Playwright GitHub Actions GitLab CI

Highlights

  • AI-Native Product Launch — Helped build and ship an AI-native MVP with sophisticated Twilio telephony integration as part of a small, high-performing team
  • Platform Architecture — Led a tiger team migrating 10+ teams off a legacy Java platform to a modern, containerized architecture on AWS ECS with Apollo GraphQL — the proof-of-concept became a foundational pattern for the company
  • Revenue-Generating API — Built a backend API from the ground up that enabled third-party integrations and was sold as a service, directly generating revenue and expanding product capabilities
  • Legacy Modernization — Migrated a legacy ASP.NET application to Angular, overhauling the UI/UX and modernizing the entire frontend stack
  • Team Leadership — Led frontend engineering teams of 5+, ran sprint planning, code reviews, and mentored junior engineers

Beyond the Keyboard

Endurance Sports — Triathlete, marathon and half-marathon runner. I swim, bike, and run — sometimes all three in the same day.
Maker — 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC, and woodworking. I like building things I can hold.
Electronics — Raspberry Pi, Arduino, ESP32 — home automation, sensors, and whatever else I can wire up.
D&D — Yes, I roll dice and do voices.
