Non-English installations can produce a grub configuration that contain unicode characters. Set the regular expression encoding to UTF-8 instead of Windows-31J. I wasn't able to test this patch against grub 1.

If someone needs to reproduce the issue or the fix, only one line containing unicode characters will trigger the issue. One could add the following French
Offending characters are the Latin Small Letter E with Acute and the Horizontal Ellipsis |
