Gaia is a radical reimagining of value—a currency designed to align human prosperity with planetary health. It's an economic system built on a simple, powerful premise: wealth is created by healing the Earth.
This project is more than a currency; it's a social and economic experiment to answer a fundamental question: What if our economy rewarded regeneration instead of extraction?
Our current economic models often treat the Earth as an externality to be exploited. Gaia reverses this hierarchy. The health and vitality of the planet are the source of all value. The laws of nature precede the laws of the market.
The ultimate goal is to leverage humanity's desire for wealth and redirect it into a force for planetary healing. To become rich in Gaia, one must first enrich the Earth.
Unlike traditional currencies backed by debt or speculation, Gaia is backed by life itself. Value is minted through verifiably regenerative actions: reforesting land, cleaning waterways, restoring biodiversity. The healthier our planet becomes, the more value is available within our economy.
Inspired by the natural cycles of decay and renewal, Gaia is designed to circulate. Stagnant wealth, like a stagnant pond, slowly loses its potential over time. This "evaporation" mechanism (demurrage) discourages hoarding and ensures that value is constantly flowing, serving the community and stimulating a vibrant, living economy.
Gaia is the practical tool, the currency you can exchange. But it is a manifestation of a deeper phenomenon we call the Sols. span_0span_1As detailed in the Laws of the Sols, the Sols are the indescribable, psycho-philosophical field of value, governed by principles that blend quantum physics, psychoanalysis, and economicsspan_0span_1. To truly understand Gaia, one must explore the nature of the Sols.
The Gaia system is envisioned as a transparent ledger accessed through a public API.
- Proposal: Community members propose regenerative projects (e.g., "Plant 1,000 trees in this area").
- Validation: The project's goals and impact are validated by the community or a council.
- Minting: Upon successful completion of project milestones, a corresponding amount of Gaia is created ("minted") and distributed to the contributors.
- Circulation: The newly created Gaia enters the economy, where it can be exchanged for goods and services, all while being subject to the natural law of demurrage.
