Verse-al Maths · The Novacene

A free, open GCSE mathematics curriculum for curious and neurodivergent learners — built on the Verse-al Ways of Knowing, liberated from any platform, and designed to put the learner at the centre.

Live curriculum: https://thenovacene.github.io/verse-al-maths/

What this is

Verse-al Maths is not a faster way to deliver the same old lessons. It is a reimagining of what a mathematics curriculum can be when it begins with the learner — their curiosity, their nervous system, their way of seeing the world.

Every lesson is built around five Ways of Knowing:

Way of Knowing What it asks
The Knowing World What patterns and structures can we find?
The Human Story Whose story does this mathematics tell?
The Expressive Self How can I show what I understand?
The Designed World What can I build with this knowledge?
The Living Body How does my body and mind feel right now?

Each lesson connects to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, includes regulation supports for neurodivergent learners, and invites creative expression alongside technical mastery.

How to use it

As a learner or teacher: Visit https://thenovacene.github.io/verse-al-maths/ — no login, no tracking, no data stored. Open a lesson, explore, make mistakes freely, close it when you're done.

As a school: Clone or fork this repo and host it yourself. The curriculum is platform-agnostic — it runs anywhere that serves HTML.

As a developer: The rich JSON metadata in /metadata is designed to power an orchestration engine that recommends personalised learning pathways. We are building this now. Contributions welcome.

Bespoke school editions

The curriculum is free and open. Schools and organisations can commission a bespoke edition that includes:

  • Your branding, colours, and school name
  • Lessons mapped to your chosen exam board (AQA, Edexcel, OCR)
  • Lessons sequenced to your scheme of work
  • Custom driving questions and SDG contexts
  • Hosting on your own domain

On the horizon

We are building an AI orchestration layer — an AI stage manager, not an AI tutor — that will recommend learning pathways based on a learner's interests, confidence, neurodivergent profile, and prior attempts, while keeping the human at the centre of every decision.

If you are a school, EdTech investor, or fellow traveller who believes education can be something other than what it currently is, we would love to hear from you.
