Market Basket Analysis Project

The Market Basket Analysis project aims to uncover associations between products purchased together in a grocery store dataset spanning the years 2014 and 2015. Through data preprocessing, association rule generation, transaction encoding, exploratory data analysis (EDA), and visualization, the project seeks to identify patterns in customer purchasing behavior. The ultimate goal is to provide insights that can inform marketing strategies such as product placement, cross-selling, and promotions.

Files Included:

  • DataPreprocessing.py: Script for data preprocessing, including handling missing values and irrelevant columns.
  • AssociationRuleGeneration.py: Script for generating association rules using the Apriori algorithm.
  • TransactionEncoding.py: Script for encoding transaction data for association rule analysis.
  • ExploratoryDataAnalysis.py: Script for conducting exploratory data analysis on the dataset.
  • Visualization.py: Script for visualizing sales made each day across different members.

Project Structure:

  • Data Preprocessing: Cleaning and preparing the dataset for analysis.
  • Association Rule Generation: Generating association rules to discover product associations.
  • Transaction Encoding: Encoding transaction data for association rule analysis.
  • Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA): Analyzing patterns and trends in customer purchasing behavior.
  • Visualization: Visualizing sales made by customers on each day to identify trends and patterns.

Instructions:

  1. Clone this repository.
  2. Install the required dependencies using pip install -r requirements.txt.
  3. Run each script sequentially to perform data preprocessing, association rule generation, transaction encoding, exploratory data analysis, and visualization.

Recommendations for Future Work:

  • Explore the impact of external factors such as seasonality, promotions, and customer demographics on purchasing behavior.
  • Experiment with different association rule mining algorithms and parameters to improve the identification of product associations.
  • Implement advanced visualization techniques to gain deeper insights into customer behavior.
  • Consider integrating customer segmentation techniques to tailor marketing strategies to specific customer groups.
  • Extend the analysis to include real-time data streams for dynamic market basket analysis.
