The RD has a filing cabinet in their office containing DNA data disks which hold every crewmember's UI/UE/UF
In the event someone's DNA is screwed up beyond repair they can visit the RD and/or Geneticist to have their DNA restored.
And of course a rogue RD can use these disks to uh, change their own identity? Or give it to a humonkey to stage someone's death? Who knows.
