FED3.2 is the most up to date version of the classic FED3, the Feeding Experimentation Device, with some optional logging of environmental variables. It is available for purchase from the Open Ephys Store.
Here is a comparison between different versions of FED3:
| Category | FED3.2 | FED3.1 |
|---|---|---|
| Device image |
|
|
| Core purpose | Feeding experimentation device and environmental logging |
Feeding experimentation device |
| Electronics | Single, integrated PCB | Main PCB + Feather M0 Adalogger |
| USB connectivity | 1x USB-C Single port (side) for charging & programming |
2x Micro-B USB Separate charging (side) & programming ports (bottom) |
| Battery | Improved battery management 4ร faster charging |
Standard battery management and charging |
| Additional sensors | Standard I2C connector, e.g. for AHT20 temperature & humidity sensor | No additional sensor interface |
| Mouthpiece material | Titanium (not corrosive) | Steel |
| External case | No difference in 3D printed external case | |
| Components | No difference in memory card, coin cell or battery specs | |
| Code | Same FED3 Arduino library | |
A related project, FED4, extends the basic feeding experimentation functionality by integrating comprehensive environmental monitoring, data logging, and wireless capabilities. Currently, FED4 is only available for self-assembly.
