My girlfriend told me that I should be looking to make my website "me", because she was clearly saw that I really liked this one website's style when looking for inspiration (http://www.gilhuybrecht.com/), and knowing my personality, I was going to copy it to some degree. Technically I have (well, my use of whitespace is probably more amateurish) and I really liked the font this person was using. "Circular Std", reminded me kind of like Frank and Oak's font (And apparently "Circular" is their font so it is close), so I made the cells similar to https://www.frankandoak.com/ .

Originally for the cells, they were going to be laid out like the iOS App Store, one after the other, but I thought that it might be weird for the entire website to be long, so I decided on a carousel. I actually didn't really know how I was going to stylize it exactly.

This time was probably the first time I actually tried to make a mockup in addition to the usual notebook sketch. I really have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to designing these things, so it probably makes sense to at least try making a mockup to give me some direction. It was kind of clunky to do it in Photoshop too, but it's a start.

Instead of the gradient style that the iOS App store does when stylizing the cards, I decided to do it like Frank and Oak, but I didn't have any pictures from my internships or hobbies. I decided on just taking stuff from unsplash, and it worked out pretty well (although I would like to post a picture of University College for UofT under my education). Went with Flickty for the carousel, and had to kind of restructure the project to accomodate this.

Overall, I'd say it looks great. I originally wanted it to look like https://cara.lekoarts.de/ since it has a lot happening in it, and I can be like that sometimes. However, the look I went for is more of how I see myself or what I'd like to be. It's very clean and elegant, something I want to be, and since I'm very idealistic, this is very accurate in a sense. So in the end it ended up being "me", so that's neat.

An idea that didn't make the cut was fashionable serif fonts. I looked at the Aritzia, Oak and Fort, ..., other fashion websites for fonts that I liked and that gave a very "put together" vibe, and found Aritzia's Fall Font (that I could never find otf/ttf's for) as well as Canela and Apercu from https://goodonyou.eco/ . It stood out too much compared to Circular Std, and I ended up going with just Circular Std for everything.

Also discovered how aesthetic the water picture looks (the one I put under hobbies > graphic design) when paired with white text on top.

Made a very spaced out informal website, inspired by older renditions of https://www.mich.li/ and with a colour palette just copies from Adobe Kuler. I tried to experiment a bit some complementary colours that I liked, but I feel that the Scotiabank one burns the eyes a little bit. I also tried to make it more informal with lowercase spelling, which had mixed results.
