What does this PR do? What is the motivation?

Creates a new Preview docs page for Bits Data — an agentic AI assistant that lets users ask natural-language questions about their business data. Bits Data identifies the relevant tables, writes the SQL, runs it against the connected data warehouse, and returns the results.

The page lives at /bits_ai/bits_data/ as a sibling of the other Bits AI product docs.

The page covers:

  • An overview of Bits Data and how it fits alongside existing Datadog analysis tools (Notebooks, Dashboards, DDSQL).
  • Use cases and a how-it-works walkthrough.
  • Query contexts (curated per-domain instructions that keep answers accurate).
  • Skills (reusable saved instructions).
  • Permissions model (respects the user's existing data warehouse access).
  • Accuracy disclaimer for AI-generated answers.

Notes

  • Uses the standard Preview callout with a Request Access link. The product-preview URL is a placeholder — replace with the final URL before the page goes live.
  • No screenshots in this initial draft; add once a customer-safe screenshot is available.

Merge instructions

Merge readiness:

  • Ready for merge

For Datadog employees:

Your branch name MUST follow the <name>/<description> convention and include the forward slash (/). Without this format, your pull request will not pass CI, the GitLab pipeline will not run, and you won't get a branch preview. Getting a branch preview makes it easier for us to check any issues with your PR, such as broken links.

If your branch doesn't follow this format, rename it or create a new branch and PR.

[6/5/2025] Merge queue has been disabled on the documentation repo. If you have write access to the repo, the PR has been reviewed by a Documentation team member, and all of the required checks have passed, you can use the Squash and Merge button to merge the PR. If you don't have write access, or you need help, reach out in the #documentation channel in Slack.

AI assistance

Used Claude Code to draft the initial page from internal source material, with manual review for content and public-safety.
