Hi, I'm Ariane 👋

A Data Engineer based in Cologne, Germany. ~5 years building data platforms for analytics — mainly focused on data engineering, site reliability, and green field analytics projects

Outside of my day job, most of my energy goes into Horbach Data Platforms — a private org where I'm building a data platform for analysing various kinds of data.

What I'm thinking about lately

  • Building a personal data platform for environmental data — currently ingesting air quality data from Germany's Umweltbundesamt API
  • Site reliability and operations using agentic AI
  • Exploring new opportunities for data engineering and analytics using agents
  • Making observability a first-class citizen in data platforms, not an afterthought
  • OpenTelemetry adoption patterns for data engineering workloads

A bit of context on my GitHub activity

Most of my active work lives in a private org (Horbach Data Platforms) — I'm building a personal data platform there and it's where I spend the bulk of my engineering time outside of work. Public contributions are sparse not from lack of activity, but from lack of hours in the day. Happy to walk through the work directly if you're curious.

I occasionally write on Medium about things I'm figuring out, and I contribute to Stack Overflow when I have something useful to add.

Background

Before I was an engineer, I was a professional cyclist — competed at the Women's Tour de France and World Cup level. That background shaped how I approach engineering: discipline, team work and passion - basically.
