🚨 Severity: HIGH
πŸ’‘ Vulnerability: Uncontrolled Resource Consumption (CWE-400) via hung external processes (ffmpeg, ffprobe, brctl, SetFile). If these processes stall indefinitely, worker threads are blocked causing a Denial of Service.
🎯 Impact: An attacker could intentionally upload malicious files that cause the ffmpeg or ffprobe processes to hang, exhausting server resources and preventing other users from using the service.
πŸ”§ Fix: Added explicit timeout arguments and subprocess.TimeoutExpired handling to all 5 subprocess.run calls in media_shrinker.py. The timeout durations were tailored to the specific tools (e.g., 60s for ffprobe, 600s for silencedetect and icloud downloads, 3600s for ffmpeg transcoding, and 10s for SetFile).
βœ… Verification: Ran python3 -m unittest discover -s tests locally which all passed. Tested that adding timeouts behaves securely and raises MediaShrinkerError when timeouts happen.

OpenCode Review Overview

  • Head SHA: f0697b6f507478e2d48dfeb3ee3b9a9b3ccf5ffe
  • Workflow run: 28441232765
  • Workflow attempt: 1
  • Gate result: CHECK_FAILED (approval step)

Pull request overview

OpenCode cannot approve yet because required coverage evidence did not pass.

Check outcome

1. HIGH .github/workflows/opencode-review.yml:1 - Coverage evidence did not prove required test/docstring evidence

  • Problem: The OpenCode approval path reached an APPROVE control result while the separate coverage-evidence job result was failure.

  • Root cause: Automated approval is only valid when the same-head coverage-evidence job proves supported repository test suites passed and configured docstring gates passed or were advisory, or reports not applicable because no supported source files or package manifests exist. Missing, failed, skipped, unavailable, or unsupported-tooling test evidence is a blocker.

  • Fix: Install or configure the repository test/docstring evidence tooling when source files or package manifests exist, rerun the current-head coverage-evidence job, and approve only after it reports success with required evidence or explicit no-source not-applicable evidence.

  • Regression test: Keep the approval branch checking needs.coverage-evidence.result == success before posting APPROVE, but leave the PR review unchanged for coverage-evidence blocker states such as cancelled, skipped, failed, unsupported-tooling, or below-100 evidence.

  • Result: CHECK_FAILED

  • Reason: coverage-evidence result was failure, so required test/docstring evidence was not proven for current head f0697b6f507478e2d48dfeb3ee3b9a9b3ccf5ffe.

  • Head SHA: f0697b6f507478e2d48dfeb3ee3b9a9b3ccf5ffe

Coverage evidence

Coverage Evidence

  • Head SHA: f0697b6f507478e2d48dfeb3ee3b9a9b3ccf5ffe
  • Required test evidence: supported repository test suites must pass.
  • Required docstring evidence: repository-owned docstring gates must pass when configured; otherwise docstring coverage is advisory.
