Advanced HPC workshop with NCI

Instructors: Rosalind Wang, Kieran Luken

This workshop is designed to provide an understanding of High-Performance Computing (HPC) concepts and practices, specifically tailored for users of the National Computational Infrastructure (NCI) facilities. Participants will gain hands-on experience with HPC systems, job scheduling, parallel computing, and performance optimization.

We will cover the following topics:

  1. Introduction to NCI:
    • Overview of NCI facilities and resources
    • Accessing NCI systems
    • NCI user environment and modules
    • Job scheduling with PBS Pro
  2. Nextflow:
    • Introduction to Nextflow
    • Setting up and running Nextflow pipelines on NCI
    • Best practices for workflow management
  3. Containers:
    • Basic concepts of containers
    • Using Singularity on HPC

Pre-requisites:

  • Familiarity with HPC concepts
  • Basic knowledge of Linux command line
  • Experience with job scheduling systems (e.g., PBS, SLURM)
