BIT-golang-2026-33814 / CVE-2026-33814 / GO-2026-4918

More information

Details

When processing HTTP/2 SETTINGS frames, transport will enter an infinite loop of writing CONTINUATION frames if it receives a SETTINGS_MAX_FRAME_SIZE with a value of 0.

Invoking failure to reject ASCII-only Punycode-encoded labels in golang.org/x/net/idna

CVE-2026-39821 / GO-2026-5026

More information

Details

The ToASCII and ToUnicode functions incorrectly accept Punycode-encoded labels that decode to an ASCII-only label. For example, ToUnicode("xn--example-.com") incorrectly returns the name "example.com" rather than an error.

This behavior can lead to privilege escalation in programs using the idna package. For example, a program which performs privilege checks on the ASCII hostname may reject "example.com" but permit "xn--example-.com". If that program subsequently converts the ASCII hostname to Unicode, it will inadvertently permits access to the Unicode name "example.com".

Summary

This PR updates the golang.org/x/net dependency from v0.38.0 to v0.53.0 to address multiple security vulnerabilities (CVE-2025-47911, CVE-2025-58190, CVE-2026-33814). The update also includes transitive dependency updates to maintain consistency. The changes are straightforward dependency version bumps in go.mod and corresponding checksum updates in go.sum.

None.

Suggestions

Recommendations for improvement (nice to have)

  • [go.mod:20] (refactor/dependency-management): Consider adding a renovate config to pin the golang.org/x/net dependency to allow automatic security updates. This ensures the project stays up-to-date with security patches.

      "extends": ["config:base"],

        "matchUpdateTypes": ["security"],
        "automerge": true
      }]
    }

Positive Feedback

  • The dependency update correctly addresses 3 security vulnerabilities (2 html parsing issues, 1 HTTP/2 issue)
  • The go.sum checksums match the go.mod versions correctly
  • Transitive dependencies are properly updated (golang.org/x/crypto, x/sys, x/text, x/term)
  • This follows the recommended practice of promptly applying security patches

This PR cleanly patches two CVEs in golang.org/x/net/html (CVE-2025-58190 and CVE-2025-47911) with no blocking issues. The indirect dependency updates are also correct. LGTM.
