Get Involved
There are several ways you can get involved — whether you’re in production, development, research, or just curious. We’d love to have you.
You can have a real voice at the table.
- Are you in production, taking notes or managing projects?
- Are you a developer with ideas or implementation suggestions?
- An AI/ML researcher who can help answer questions or guide direction?
- Or simply someone who wants to learn more?
Join us on Slack or drop into one of our weekly meetings!
To join Slack click on this link: https://join.slack.com/t/academysoftwarefdn/shared_invite/zt-3nyy8gb41-yEKr7tPBgNO_D0XUmZGnWw
Slack is the best place to:
- Ask questions
- Propose ideas
- Share feedback
- Coordinate contributions
Some channels that you can join:
# dailies-note-assistent-tech - Channel for talking about the DNA project specifically.
# wg-ml - Machine Learning Working group. We talk about the DNA project and other ml topics here. It is also where we talk about the agenda.
Feel free to say "Hi!" and to introduce yourself. We will be very happy to learn more about you and why you're interested in the group/project. We are quite a friendly bunch.
All meetings can be joined via the ASWF meeting calendar:

A discussion-focused meeting around machine learning topics.
Currently, much of the conversation centers on DNA, but it doesn’t have to — new topics are welcome.
💡 If you’d like to propose a topic, post in Slack a few days before the meeting.
This meeting is for getting into the nitty-gritty of application development.
We typically discuss:
- Architecture decisions
- Design tradeoffs
- Implementation details
- Short-term and long-term roadmap items
If you’re contributing code (or want to), this is a great place to jump in.
If you work in production, your input is critical.
You are the end users of DNA, and we want to shape the product around real workflows and pain points.
Ways to contribute:
- Share feedback in Slack or meetings
- Participate in discussions about features and UX
- Volunteer to gather feedback from other users and relay it to the dev team
You can help build the DNA application—our primary interface for capturing and managing dailies notes.
Check the GitHub Issues tab for tasks flagged for development. Issues are organized by tags. Some useful ones to look for:
-
Help Wanted / Good First Issue
Small, well-scoped tasks that are great for getting familiar with the project and its architecture. -
Frontend / Backend
Indicates which part of the stack the issue touches.
Tips for getting started:
- Start with a smaller issue before taking on something complex
- Don’t hesitate to ask questions—on Slack or directly in the issue
- Feel free to ask for guidance or pairing help
Many hands make fast work!
We need a generic production management database (e.g. shotgrid) that has a decent size show, with shots, tasks, notes, and ideally daily transcripts.
The current full proposal is here. A slide show is here.
