<h2>Research Interests</h2>
</header>
<p>My research mainly focuses on <strong>Connected and Automated Vehicles</strong> (CAVs), which can save fuel, reduce traffic collisions, ease congestion, and provide better mobility service to the elderly, physically challenged and visually challenged
populations, and therefore, dramatically reshape the future of ground transportation and the society.

<h3>CAV & Safety</h3>
<p> We developed a series of stochastic models to emulate <strong>microscopic driving environment</strong> models. We also invented the <strong>Accelerated Evaluation</strong> method that was found to reduce the test duration by <u>2-5 orders of magnitude</u> compared to the naturalistic driving tests.</p>

<h3>CAV & Energy</h3>
<p>By integrating <u>traffic prediction</u>, <u>powertrain control</u>, <u>thermal management</u>, and <u>real-time optimization techniques</u> with the emerging CAV technologies, we are aiming to achieve <strong>20 % improvement of the driving energy efficiency</strong>.</p>

<h3>CAV & Connectivity</h3>
<p>We are using connected vehicle technologies to achieve an <strong>accurate low-cost GNSS network</strong>. We also studied the <strong>DSRC communication performance</strong> in the real world based on the Safety Pilot Model Deployment data, which
is the world largest connected vehicle database.</p>

<h3>CAV & Human</h3>
<p>It is estimated that CAVs will <strong>gradually increase its penetration</strong> over the next few decades. Over this transition, CAVs will mix with human-controlled vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. We are developing <strong>human models</strong> and used them in <u>designing</u> and <u>evaluating</u> CAVs.</p>
