Behaviour in iframes?

I am trying to use mipd to discover providers but within the context of an iframe embedded inside another application. What happens is that the iframe app fails to discover any providers at all. From research, the window.dispatchEvent and window.addEventListener cannot "cross through" iframe boundaries. Am I doing something wrong? Does mipd not work at all inside iframes?
