explorer crashes when selecting zip/rar file

When I select a zip or rar file the explorer restarts.

When I select a zip or rar file the my explorer restarts.

Expected outcome

To not have the explorer restart/crash.

Actual outcome

My explorer restarts.

if you enabled the option register as shell extension, disable it by opening up the EP properties application, go to File Explorer, and untick Register as shell extension.

Click on restart file explorer in EP Properties application after you've disabled Register as shell extension.

Please post windows version and build. You can find this by running winver. Please include if you are running x86-64 or Arm. And what language your windows is in. Windows 11 Pro 25H2 is missing the build number.

Please post explorer patcher version, by running EP properties application and click on About on the left side.

do you have third party antivirus installed? If so, which one? You will need to add exceptions to it, as otherwise it removes files that EP installs and needs to function. After adding the exceptions, then you will need to reinstall EP.

did you also try uninstalling powertoys?

1. Is Windows Explorer the default program configured for zip/rar files?
2. Do you have WinRar or 7Zip or similar archive file programs installed?
3. What is your File Explorer > Control Interface?

I'll go check if this is repro on your Windows version.

Try setting the command interface to windows 7 command bar.

What version of winrar do you have installed? Latest is: 7.13 from: https://www.win-rar.com/download.html
