Have you tried with the latest version, 1.6.17 ?

For me it turned out that the api token was not longer valid.

The behavior is quite confusing:
Pull with invalid token: just works - because the project being public
Push with invalid token fails: with 404 - Whot? 💥

What do you mean by "no longer valid"? Deleted in Transifex? Expired?

Well, I'd expect something like "403 Forbidden" -- that's normally the HTTP Status code used for unauthenticated access attempt.

But 404 may have a reason: When you try to do unauthenticated access a project in Transifex, you get 404 error as if the project didn't exist. You need to authenticate, have joined the project already, to be able to browse the project.
