Do we need Open Telemetry?

The topic of Open Telemetry was brought up several times.

Wonder what is the purpose?

• corporate client checkbox, we can provide an example how to integrate with OT client
• real need from the past experience, never happened in 2 years yet.
• imaginary need that could become real in future. We could post OT when AI app retries LLM calls

Is this a question of including observability in general or OpenTelemetry specifically?

From what I understood, if CAT can provide some sort of interface to Open Telemetry?
Guessing when user wants to track CAT Validators fail in production how would they hook it up?
