Manual install on High Sierra

I'm new to GitHub, and I know very little about programming, compiling code, etc. So I tried to install the manual method on an iMac running MacOS 10.13.6 High Sierra. After copying the file to my Library folder, and running the Terminal command "qlmanage -r" and I still can't QL subs. I've tried placing it in the QuickLook folder in the root level Library as well as the one in my Users folder. The subs I'm trying it with came from OpenSubtitles, they open fine in Jubler, and display along with the video when I play it in IINA. I even saved a copy from Jubler to make sure it was in the UTF-8 format. An example downloaded sub is attached.

Hi, this quicklook only works on .srt files.
You must rename your file with an .srt extension to see the Quicklook work properly

Hey, thanks for replying, but I wish you hadn't assumed I was an idiot. Most of my day is spent working with video. You closed my issue without letting me tell you that your answer didn't apply. I KNOW how to use QuickLook and subtitles. I zipped the example because GitHub wouldn't let me attach it as a .srt file. I attached it just in case there was something malformed that was causing it.

I used to have QuickLook working with .srt files. Something happened when I deleted some old apps using AppCleaner and I think it deleted something that had been installed by one of those apps. I can't figure out which one. So I was looking for an alternative. On all my other 3 Macs it's still working fine without using QLAddict.

I also thought the .set format was weird, but I thought maybe it was a custom format that would look like the .srt format.

I tested installing the latest version of the quicklook on a mac with High Sierra version 10.13.6 and it works fine with your subtitle renamed to .srt.

I am not sure I understood your last sentence.
Did you have another app that allowed subtitle preview (like the quicklook), deleted it, then installed my quicklook?
If so, can you tell me which application it was?
And, do you have other quicklooks installed?

I apologize too. I saw the message just after some really bad news today. So I'm sorry for reacting the way I did! I made an assumption too, didn't I?

This is a long message because I wanted you to have another datapoint in case it helps anyone else. But I think I just fixed the problem. Read on.

Yes, for years I've been able to use QuickLook to view subtitles...I had come to believe it was part of the system's abilities. I don't know where the ability came from but it has been there. Then I decided to clean out the Applications folder of some apps that were no longer used or supported, and did so using a utility called AppCleaner which finds system files it had created when installed, and preferences, and deletes those in addition to the app itself. Somewhere along the way I lost the QuickLook ability for .srt files. I tried recalling what all I deleted but can't be certain. And some of the ones I did recall no longer provide installers so I can't reinstall to discover which one did it. Most of the apps I deleted hadn't been updated (or used by me) since 2005 or earlier according to the creation/modification dates.

Presently my other 2 Macs still can view .srt files via QuickLook. They are on Mojave. The only additional apps they have are Microsoft Office, photo/graphics editing apps, audio apps, FTP utilities, Filemaker, Arq backup, scanner software, and label printer software. They have the same subtitle utilities.

Just now I decided to RE-install all the subtitle and video related tools on the problem Mac (High Sierra). When I reinstalled an app called Subler, the ability to QuickLook .srt files was back! (https://subler.org) I rarely use Subler, and haven't for a long, long time. But could it have caused this to work? I don't see any new QuickLook plugins in the Library folder, and QLAddict is not installed (because it didn't help).

As before I compared the plugin report using terminal command: qlmanage -m plugins
I do not see anything with Subler in the name. In fact I don't see any new lines comparing the one just now with one I made yesterday and saved for comparison! I also looked at the Subler package contents and do not see "quick" or "ql" in any of the filenames.

I've attached a TextEdit .rtf file with the results of the qlmanage command in case you would like to see what's there. It is zipped.

I almost tried uninstalling and reinstalling it to verify, but I'm afraid Subler may not be the reason it's working again and I might break something else!!

I'd still love to get QLAddict to work though. If it did, would it conflict with whatever is working now?

Do you have a crash report about subler ?

I don't see any logs for Subler in the Library folder or in Console. Of course I haven't used it since reinstalling it, only launched it a couple of times. And I'm not sure it ever "crashed" when I did use it. I just wasn't using it and therefore deleted it...that's what originally caused the QuickLook capabilities of .srt files to stop working.

I realize this is a year old, but I have pretty much the exact issue. It was also most likely caused by uninstalling several old applications I no longer used, and fixed by installing Subler (thanks for that!).
Ironically, I installed Subler a few months ago, and only removed it because it broke quicklook for subtitles.
The only change from qlmanage -m plugins was the word 'loaded' after the version number.

When it wasn't working, every time I tried using quicklook on a subtitle, it caused ExternalQuickLookSatellite-x86_64 to crash, so I'm attaching one of the crash logs.
Also, I'm unfortunately on Big Sur.

Hi I am afraid to say that the quick look doesn’t work on Big Sur because of apple new policies

It worked until a few days ago, though I guess I can't be sure if it was QLaddict or something else that was actually working.
