Guys, I Need MASSIVE Help With Folder Structures, Completely Messed Everything Up

Hey guys!! So a few months ago I migrated to a new computer and when I brought TE over it was broken in many ways. I was using a version from the very first days of TE and the creator pretty much did the entire thing for me as I'm one of those people you see on the internet that thinks just trying to navigate on Github is a small impossible task, lol.

I couldn't fix what was broken so I took the plunge and decided to try a fresh install. So far, amazingly......and I still can't believe I got as far as I did.......so far I did pretty good, but I use a REALLY simple version with not much added to it. But that's exactly how I wanted it. I had the folder structures sort of OK in the beginning, really not perfectly ideal though so I figured I could handle this, it seemed like the only thing I was sure I could do. But two days ago I started trying and now I am in just a complete absolute mess and I can't get out of it at all. I've done so much googling and tried so many different things I'm now waaaaaaay past the point of no return and there's no way I can do another fresh install, I feel I got lucky the first time with the fresh install.

Right now TE's folders are a jumbled mess. Anytime I hit the refresh button, close it, back out of it, you name it, anything at all that I do reverts the folders to nothing but a jumbled mess, they're not chronological, there not alphabetical, they re add fields, there just all over the place. What I would like is that every single one of my folders on my computer to have the exact look. If someone's willing to help I would love for them to be in this structure:

• Alphabetized, Numerical & No Grouping.

• When I create a new folder I'd like it to stay where I created it and not too auto alphabetize itself.

• Not sure I can describe the next one, but I do alot of music editing and when I edit a song I'm basically creating a new file and when that file is created it doesn't appear in the folder until after I hit refresh. I guess it wouldn't be a problem just as long as I get the refreshing errors to go away, but it wasn't like that with my other install of TE, and I do prefer it.

• Also to add to the music editing part......when I right click on several folders at once to just drag and drop them into the folder, it doesn't show that it puts them in there even though they are. After you remove your finger from placing them in the folder all the files are still showing in that main folder your trying to move them from. But like I said, they did get moved into the new folder, but still annoying.

Please someone, even with all these errors, I would still use TE because it seems to be the only one that looks like I want it to look, so please if someone can help I'd be forever grateful!!!!!!!

• Could you share 'additional information' about your exact setup and what you are using:
  Help → About (please use the Copy button)

• Are you able to provide a screenshot or a video showing how the issue occurs?

• Have you checked whether your previous configuration (maybe) settings are available [addons/config folders]?

• What happens when you start the application using the initial package with default settings?

• Have you checked Tools → Options… → List/Style (which settings are currently selected)?

➥ Have you tried reviewing how the settings were previously set, if the old configuration files are no longer accessible?

Unfortunately, I don't know how to help you more about of that when I don't know exactly what your previous configuration looked like.

I’m not an advanced user either, just an ordinary one, so I can help you to some extent for set up TE.

Mainly if I’ve had similar issues myself and can share the solution that works or worked for me.

Of course, there may be better or more effective solutions than the ones I can offer, but I will do my best with my limited knowledge or within my modest abilities.

Thanks so much for coming to help. I'll try my best to get you all the info but I need a little time in doing so, I have company staying with me for the month and yeah this wasn't probably the best time to ask for help but it's driving me mad and I just couldn't take it any more.

I totally forgot I have my old copy of TE so I'm also gonna look at that and see if I can figure it out from there first. So thanks for that! My mind's been so frazzled from trying to figure this out I totally forgot that avenue.

HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!! I laughing so hard I could cry!!!!! I opened my old TE and went to List/Style and noticed there were two things checked on my current TE that weren't even options to check off in my old config, them being column header and file explorer options. Unchecked file explorer and things just magically appear to work now. I can't stop shaking my damn head, I seriously can't believe that may have been the cause. Bizarre.

I'm definitely gonna put it through it's paces over the next week, but I'll be damn if this did it!!!! I cannot thank you enough for something as simple as check your old config..............duh! Wow, brilliant.

Ok, I did start checking things out and it's still jumbling other folders, but I have a new found resurgence of optimism so I'll try to figure these out again with my old TE in the coming week. Still happy though. Is there not one customize folder option that will be a universal option for every folder??? I thought that's the way it worked. Because I just tried the customize this folder and set everything up correctly and it reverted back to being jumbled.

Could you also provide a screenshot/video illustrating what you mean by 'mess'?

From what I can gather, the issue does not seem to be with the TE itself, but rather with how the settings are defined.

This largely depends on the specific add-ons you are using and the options you have selected.

For this reason, we need your exact configuration data along with a photo or video recording to identify the root of this problem.

The more detailed or specific/precise information as possible you provide, the better we will be able to assist you.
