Portable Didn't Work When Placed On New Computer

I've been using TE since 2013. I love it but it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to setup to my exact liking. My computer just died but I had TE backup up on a flash drive. When trying to use it on my new computer it doesn't work anymore. All of my buttons like Home, Back and forth and so on are just broken images in their place now. I'm gutted beyond belief. I'll never figure this out again. What did I do wrong if I copied and pasted the entire folder onto a flash drive. Did I say how much this kills me.

Hi, if you added custom icons to your Home, Back, and Forward buttons, they will look broken because Tablacus keeps the original icon paths. (1) Make sure those icons are present on your new PC. (2) Go to the Tablacus add-ons list, find the one whose icon you want to modify, go to its settings, and add the new icon path.

Ok thanks, I'll try that out. After I sent this request I took another look at TE and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. My fonts are all changed on this new computer so with the broken icons and the font change it appeared at first glance that everything was messed up. VERY GOOD NEWS!!!!!! I absolutely love TE. hey man. Sorry, but I need help again. I can't quite get it back to how I had TE. I had it set so when you click on TE Home button it opens the tab to these 6 things only.....Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Music, Pics & Videos. Oh, and the devices and drives also. I can only get it so the devices and drives shows and that's it. Help please, thank you

Edit: I've gotten it close, but for whatever reason I cannot for the life of me get the desktop icon to be in alphabetical order. It's the only icon like that, it's at the bottom. Google says you can rearrange them but nothing is changing it.

Hi, as a Tablacus user, I've sometimes encountered folders and files getting disorganized. One way to reorganize them is to go to the Tools menu -> Options -> List -> Style -> Uncheck Group -> OK.
Then, return to the tab you want to sort and reorder it according to your preferred criteria.
If that doesn't work, you should go to the default Windows Explorer and see if any folder grouping is enabled. Disabling that grouping might solve the problem.

Thanks so much for your help!!!! Those didn't work, I may just try and remove the desktop tab instead. I've got one or two little things that I remember were fixed through the help of this site but the logs only go back to 2017 and I think I've been using it since close to the beginning. I'm trying to figure these out myself first before I ask for help again. One very important question........I've never updated my TE for fear of it screwing something up in the process. I realize this is probably me just getting too paranoid about it, but as you can see I would never be able to get this set up again to how I have it. I'd like to get the font add on to make them larger, that's really all I need from a newer version. I'm gonna assume you've updated yours over the years.........ever lost any settings??? And is there an easier, better way to saving TE to use on another computer.......ie, portable......that I won't have so much trouble getting it back up and running again. Thank you soooooo damn much!

Edit - Woo hoo, fixed fonts without TE upgrade!!!!! Ok, from what I can tell I only have one issue left that I haven't been able to fix. This was a problem the first time I got TE and it was fixed but the logs don't go that far back........do you know how to get rid of the blue hue that appears on the folder you click on? Not sure how accurate of a description that is, but I think it's a windows setting and not an TE setting. Thank you.

Hello, as a Tablacus user, I've always kept the application updated. The updates haven't caused any problems.

I even use both the official Gaku application and the patched one from ccfs (#692).
The only issue I've noticed is with the "WebView2" files, which, in my case, make opening layouts less smooth. The Tablacus author himself suggests removing these files if they cause any problems ("If the Blink version doesn't work, as a temporary solution, remove the WebView2 dll file, close Tablacus Explorer again, delete tewv32.dll and tewv64.dll from the lib folder, and then try launching the application again") https://github.com/tablacus/TablacusExplorer/releases
I remove these files, and everything goes back to normal. If you have an older version of TE installed, then these files won't be on your PC.

When I switched computers and upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11, I knew that when loading Tablacus from a portable drive, I would have to reconfigure the image, icon, and layout paths because the stored paths were from my old PC.

For years, I've used the "Meiryo" font to achieve wider line spacing in Tablacus. This requires the "Font settings" plugin.

I don't know how to change the blue color of the selected folder or file. Many colors, button shapes, etc., can be changed with the "User Style Sheet" plugin. This answer includes code provided by the author of Tablacus Explorer to modify the application's appearance: #713

Gaku, ccfs, or some other advanced user will likely be able to provide more helpful answers than I can.

Thanks for the link, I'll see what I can manage. Really appreciate the help, at the very least I have most of my functions back, which a few days ago seemed like a massive uphill struggle. Thank you.

(A) TE does not provide any proprietary "Home" button. I guess that your "Home" button is probably a tool bar button you created, or the "Home" button on Navigation Pane. For the latter, you can choose "Show frames" from the right-click menu of a tab, or tick "Show frames" on Options > List page to set it as default.

(B) When you customize TE, you can specify environment variables in the paths. Then if you copy it elsewhere, it will run with much less change in settings.

(C) "Blue hue": I guess that is the "selection box" (black text on semi-transparent light blue box). If you want the traditional style (white text on navy blue background), use "Classic style" add-on.

(D) When you report a problem, please post some screen captures that show the problem. This is essential to solve a problem efficiently.

(E) You can try my patch with which many problems in the official version are solved. To set up a patched version:

1. Install a new copy of TE250608.
2. Delete the addons folder from the new copy.
3. Copy addons and config (and icons, if any) folders from your current TE to the new copy.
4. Run Patch.cmd or PatchAdd.cmd on the new copy.
5. Delete WebView2 files (tewv32.dll and tewv64.dll) from lib folder, OR run "SwitchWebView2 OFF" from Command Prompt.

Oh crap, sorry man I had no idea you responded. I'll see if I can figure out what your sayin' but now that I've spent some more time with TE I'm finding that not very much at all has transferred over from my old computer. I honestly don't know what to do, right now it's a mess and everything I google to try and fix I can never follow. At some point I'll make a post about each thing to see if I can get some help, but as of right now about the only thing that works are those "home" buttons, lol. Even my add-ons that are installed don't seem to do anything and nothing is integrated with windows at all. Beyond frustrating.
