Local cache and file-type

Is the Local cache option considered to be experimental?

Should the local cache files get a file extension according to their mime-type making it easier to serve the correct mime/type, unless one is using mime_magic_module ?

There are many problems with the local cache, not only this, so yes, it is experimental
