Meet other local Southern Californians who love to program in Python!
7+
8+
All ages welcome. Socal Python enthusiasts range from UCLA/USC students to programming veterans. We all share two things in common, L.A. and Python.
9+
10+
Sponsors are welcome.
11+
12+
Recruiters are not allowed at meetups, nor do we seek any quid-pro-quo solicitation from anyone on the recruitment side of the business (sponsorship being the exception).

SoCal Python is dedicated to providing a welcoming, respectful, harassment-free community for everyone. We do not tolerate harassment or bullying of any community member in any form. This extends not only to members to SoCal Python, but to anyone who chooses to become involved in the larger Python community of users, developers and integrators through events or interactions.
7+
8+
To make clear what is expected, all attendees, speakers, exhibitors, organizers and volunteers at any SoCal Python event are required to follow the following Code of Conduct. Organizers will enforce this code before and throughout the event.
9+
10+
Be kind to others. Do not insult or put down other attendees. Behave professionally. Don’t publish photographs of people without their consent. Remember that harassment and sexist, racist, or exclusionary jokes and sexual language or imagery are not appropriate for SoCal Python.
11+
12+
Be mindful that participants may come from non-US cultures, or speak English as second language. It is not acceptable to harass those for whom English is a second language or who are unfamiliar with American culture.
13+
14+
In short, we expect all participants to show respect and courtesy to other participants at all times.
15+
16+
Harassment includes offensive verbal/electronic comments related to personal characteristics or choices, sexual images or comments in public or online spaces, deliberate intimidation, bullying, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks, Slack chats, electronic meetings, physical meetings or other events, inappropriate physical contact, or unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing or bullying behavior are expected to comply immediately.
17+
18+
If a participant engages in harassing behavior, representatives of the community may take reasonable action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender, expulsion from any SoCal Python event, or expulsion from mailing lists, Slack chats, discussion boards and other electronic communications channels to resolve the issue. This may include expulsion from SoCal Python Meetup group membership.
19+
20+
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please act to intercede or ask for help from any member of the SoCal Python community, Slack chat admins, website admins, or organizers/representatives of any physical events put on under the auspices of SoCal Python.

## Guidelines for SoCal Python presenters
7+
8+
**Note** If you are interested in presenting at a future meetup, [please fill out this form](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeRqpkw4GrUDsQcSHr85MCCejYab6ZfNUL09-qQIXbxRszgiQ/viewform)
9+
10+
- Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the Python community!
11+
- Please speak within the allocated time frame which should not be over 30 minutes. Timing while practicing beforehand is strongly recommended.
12+
- You may request Q&A time afterward, but this is optional
13+
- Please prepare your slides such that you can use them even if wifi is unavailable/unreliable
14+
- Please bring, or make sure the meetup organizers have, the correct A/V hookup from your computer to the projector
15+
- Please keep in mind the [Code of Conduct](/conduct) and make sure the content of your presentation and slides is appropriate for our audience! NSFW images, innuendo, and jabs at other languages/cultures are unprofessional and inappropriate for this venue
16+
- Please assign a trusted person to evaluate your talk from both technical and delivery standpoints.

6+
## So you want to sponsor a SoCal Python meetup
7+
8+
First off: Thank you for supporting the local Python community!
9+
10+
## What we look for in a venue sponsor:
11+
12+
1. Meeting time/date: we generally meet on the last Tuesday of the month, from 7pm-9pm. We are happy to be flexible as needed, though!
13+
- Adequate room capacity: Our attendance varies month to month, depending on the location, anywhere from 30 to 100 people.
14+
- Meeting space should have a projector/screen + appropriate AV equipment for presenters to deliver their talks.
15+
- Preferably, the venue sponsor will also provide food/drink at the meetup, though if this is not possible we can work with you to find a separate food sponsor. *See food sponsorship info below*
16+
- Decent parking situation. Will parking validation be provided, or is there ample street/metered parking nearby? Are you near any Metro stops?
17+
- Please mention any special accommodations, such as whether the attendees need to submit their real names, security sign ins and etc. Note: We currently do not meet at venues that ask the members to sign an NDA.
18+
- Please let us know whether serving alcohol at the meetup venue is allowed.
19+
20+
## What we need to know if you are a food/drink sponsor:
21+
22+
1. Meetup attendance is generally about 50% of the number who RSVP on meetup.com. Food for 50 people costs about $500, drinks can range from $50-100, depending on whether alcohol (if permitted) will be served.
23+
- Please discuss food options with the organizers to accommodate various dietary needs:
24+
- foods containing lactose (pizza)
25+
- pre-made foods (sandwiches and wraps which may contain allergens)
26+
- vegetarian and vegan options
27+
28+
## Here is what sponsors get in return for hosting a meetup:
29+
30+
1. Time during the meetup to briefly pitch the company, make hiring announcements
31+
- One sponsor recently hired _two_ people from hosting a single meetup! Another sponsor spoke with six excited candidates.
32+
- Prominent name/logo placement on our meetup slides (please provide us with a logo suitable for 1080p projection)
33+
- Priority for speakers who work for the sponsor who want to give presentations at the meetup, if the presenter has not been chosen before the sponsor approaches us.
34+
- Warmest, fuzziest feelings for contributing to the local Python community!
35+
36+
