I don't know about BEN, but I tried birefnet. First reason was the model size, birefnet is almost 1gb and I don't think many users will appreciate that size since its a local app and the model needs to be bundled with the app. I did try the lighter version birefnet-lite as well, but both the birefnet model were taking about ~8 gb ram in cpu processing through onnxruntime. Again, i don't think it is appropriate to use that when considering maximal inclusiveness. isnet was both lightweight(~150mb) and was taking under ~1.5gb ram when tested. Hence went with that, also in my local testing, isnet seems to be faster as well.

Maybe later i will add an option to remotely download birefnet model and use it for beefy machine users. But then app would need to have network permission and it might throw users off if they see network permission in their app store since the main selling point of app is "local". Maybe flatpak plugin or giving users the command to allow network manually in a dialog. These are for later though, I don't have any plans for it now.
