Add additional preinstalled tools

Creating an issue to track which additional tools would be nice to have pre-installed

Ubuntu:

• cargo-about (Add servo:license servo#40319)

All:

• cargo-nextest
  • from testing: Use nextest for unit-tests servo#39812
• cargo-llvm-cov
  • from Add unittest code coverage to CI  servo#39789
  • currently only used on Linux, but perhaps we also want to measure test coverage on other platforms from time to time

Outdated:

• lld (only needed unti Rust 1.90)

Can we just make that we update files in the repo and then it gets automagically built and deployed?

Also do we build images directly in our runners? servo/servo#39471 (comment) I think we should build them via CI (probably on github hosted only to avoid chicken-egg problem) and then publish as artifacts. This should also make rollback easy.

good idea! we could kick off image rebuilds on push to main with some small changes to the monitor, but changes to the image definitions are deployed as part of the monitor, which is deployed as part of the NixOS config. to automate deploying those, we’ll need to think carefully about security and failure modes.

this would also be useful! i think an interesting question is how we can run the image rebuild guests in a way that can be controlled via CI. currently the image rebuild guests are controlled entirely by the monitor and scripts like this.

in the meantime, i wonder if it would be simpler to do these install steps in a mach command, kinda like mach bootstrap? then we can have these high-level tools defined in one place (the main servo repo). image rebuilds will automatically pick up whatever tools we need on the next rebuild (currently weekly).
