I'm confirming the issue because I wanted to open a similar ticket myself.

This method (initialization via a real select) doesn't work and always selects the first option despite the autoSelectFirstOption specified explicitly via data-*

<select placeholder="--Placeholder--"  data-auto-select-first-option=false>
  <option value="1">Option 1</option>
  <option value="2">Option 2</option>
</select>

Which corresponds to the behavior of the real element and we just need to add an empty option with a placeholder and empty value:

<select>
  <option value="">--Placeholder--</option>
  <option value="1">Option 1</option>
  <option value="2">Option 2</option>
</select>

So maybe it's "by design" and there's nothing we can do about it

Probably something that only @sa-si-dev knows, since he was the one designing and implementing this library :/

Well, in the early stages, he supported this initialization method, apparently as a fun feature or side effect, although during development he constantly shied away from making any changes or improvements to it.

So I think we should add these features to the documentation in the section on initialization from real select element and leave it at that.
