I now want to install skills partially — is it possible to do it in a way similar to npx?

I've been thinking about your request for "partial installation" (similar to npx). While a one-off execution command is useful, I realized that for most developers, the deeper need is context isolation and team collaboration. We often want specific skills for a specific project, without polluting the global environment.

Inspired by your suggestion, I plan to implement a full Project Mode. Instead of just an ephemeral run command, this will work similarly to npm and package.json:

1. Per-Project Config: You can define a config.yaml to list only the specific skills needed for that project (Partial Installation).
2. Team Sync: You can commit the config to Git. Teammates can simply run skillshare install to get the exact same environment.
3. Hybrid Skills: It will support both Remote Skills (auto-downloaded) and Local Skills (private prompts committed to the repo).

🛠 Proposed Workflow

Here is the design I'm working on:

1. Initialize in a project

$ skillshare init -p
# Creates .skillshare/config.yaml and detects AI targets (e.g., .cursor, .claude)

2. Install specific skills only (Your use case)

$ skillshare install anthropics/skills/pdf -p
# Adds 'pdf' to config.yaml and installs it locally

3. Directory Structure

│   ├── config.yaml              # Manifest (Lists dependencies)
│   ├── .gitignore               # Auto-excludes remote skill source code
│   └── skills/                  # Where skills are stored

I believe this "Dependency Management" approach solves the partial install issue while adding robust support for team workflows.

• skillshare install <skill> -p — install specific skills to project only
• Auto-detection — just cd into a project with .skillshare/, no flags needed
• Per-target sync mode — each target can use merge or symlink independently
• Tracked repos in project mode — install --track -p for organization-wide skills scoped to a project
