Issues with launching rqt from nvidia container

Fault from container

root@fossa:/workshop_ws# rqt
No protocol specified
could not connect to display :1
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Available platform plugins are: eglfs, linuxfb, minimal, minimalegl, offscreen, vnc, xcb

Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Ran this on a different 20.04 machine and had the same output error 😕

@ScottMcCormack it still works here after a reboot. Odd since Ubuntu 21.10 is not technically supported. debsums -ce shows that I modified /etc/nvidia-container-runtime/config.toml to get it running. I have no-cgroups = false.

@jakebessen when you get back Monday, can you please check if these instructions work on your Ubuntu+NVIDIA machine? https://github.com/ros-workshop/course/blob/master/ros-docker.md Should only take a few minutes (and GB). Thanks!

Had a look at this again. Looks like the issue that I was having was with my xhost settings.

For my instance.

scott@scott-xps:/tmp/.X11-unix$ xhost
access control enabled, only authorized clients can connect
SI:localuser:scott

Running xhost +local:* fixed this for me

scott@scott-xps:/tmp/.X11-unix$ xhost +local:*
non-network local connections being added to access control list

Correct config

scott@scott-xps:/tmp/.X11-unix$ xhost
access control enabled, only authorized clients can connect
LOCAL:
SI:localuser:scott

I'll open a PR to mention this.
