Debian on LS420D32D

Hello my friend,

first, thank you for your great scripts and HowTo. Unfortuantely the LS420 doesn't boot when using your scripts (staying somewhere after executing /sbin/init). I used the config with Debian-wheezy and the stock-kernel...

The configuration of my LS420 is "firmware 1.81", where the system-defaults are "/dev/md10" (when having the data-partitions as Software-RAID1). So i changed the definitions in your shell_lib (TARGET_DEV) and also made sure, that the real-root-dev in initrd.buffalo is set to 0x90a.

Have you successfully established "netconsole" for logging/debugging??? Is there any nvram-command necessary to set required environment-variables???

Maybe you have a short hint for me ;-) I'll keep further testing, to successfully boot up with debian-wheezy

My ohhh my..., i oversaw that the Linkstation got a configuration for eth0 and eth1 also... I tested througout the weekend, bricked my Linkstation a lot of times and i completely ignored, that my dhcp-server offers it a lease for a new IP :-)

I'm happy... The station is up and running wheezy.

For /etc/fstab, can i also remove the line for the root-partition, because it gets mounted twice?! I know in traditional linux-systems (x86/x64) it's needed because scripts mount the partition with this information RW....

I guess you're using buffalo stock kernel, right?
Debian/Vanilla kernel didn't work when I tried last time (should be more than 1 year)

Maybe I should have another try now, since there're much new kernel images out there.

you're right, i'm using the stock-buffalo kernel. For me, at first, it's
sufficient
to have my LS420 open, using it for my needs ;-)

It's a long time ago that i was deep in Linux in general and i was
afraid about much
things, that have changed from 2007 until now (best example is systemd
;-) ).

Maybe i could also have a try of the newest kernel-images that are
currently out. Maybe
in a few weeks, if i have time for it.

Thanks for your fast response. I just have to read, how to get a steady
glimming LED instead
of blinking and how to manage the usb-plugs to the LS420...

In case folks are still interested, I've got Debian Stretch running on the LS420 (actually all the LS2XX, LS4XX and TS1XXX devices) using the Vanilla Debian Kernel and installed using the Debian network-console installer.
