Conflict of Interest Policy

This policy aims to ensure transparency, fairness, and trust within the Retraceur community.

1. When to declare a conflict of interest?

A conflict of interest arises when a personal, professional, or financial situation may influence — or appear to influence — your contributions or decisions.

Examples:

  • working for a company offering a competing service,
  • promoting a solution for commercial reasons,
  • participating in decisions related to an organization you are affiliated with.

2. How to declare?

  • Create an issue with the conflict-of-interest label.
  • Briefly describe the situation.

3. Example of a public declaration

### Conflict of interest – [Your name or GitHub handle]
- Nature of the conflict: [e.g. employment at a competing company]
- Potential impact: [e.g. I will abstain from voting on related decisions]
- Date: [YYYY-MM-DD]

4. What happens next?

The governance committee will review the declaration. Depending on the case, you may:

  • continue contributing normally,
  • abstain from voting on certain topics,
  • withdraw from a specific discussion.

Decisions will be communicated transparently to the community, unless sensitive information requires confidentiality.

5. Respect and confidentiality

All declarations are handled seriously and respectfully. Sensitive information will only be shared if necessary to protect the integrity of the project.

6. Revision

This policy may be revised periodically to remain aligned with the project’s evolution and community needs.
