Introducing a tags property with wildcard tags

Hi publiccode.yml folks,

A lot of repositories that are listed on https://oss.developer.overheid.nl use tags on gitlab or github. We show them as well in our catalogue.

In the future we are planning on building our catalogue "publiccode.yml"-first. Thus it should be possible to add the tags that are currently set via gitlab or github, in the publiccode.yml file. I would like to introduce a "tags" property where tags(any string), can be set. I would suggest formatting the strings in Kebab Case. This creates a situation where the codebases are agnostic of the platforms they are hosted on (github/ gitlab).

I wonder what you guys think about this. I think it turns the standard into a solution for making repositories more Git-platform agnostic.

Hi Tom, I'm in favor of making publiccode.yml agnostic to forge specifics but I'm skeptical about adding tags.

What should they describe in a publiccode.yml file? Are they just an informal addition to the long/short descriptions?

IMHO, tags sometimes make sense in a downstream platform where users add them to the software description, which may come (partially or completely) from the upstream publiccode.yml.

Fair point. My whish derives from the idea to use them in our UI. But we can of course use more specific properties to filter. I'll dive deeper in the tag-usage within our catalogue.

For https://code.gouv.fr/sill/ we don't inherit tags from the upstream sources (wikidata or others), but users can add them manually when adding/editing a software presentation.
