Hi Tom, I'm in favor of making What should they describe in a IMHO, tags sometimes make sense in a downstream platform where users add them to the software description, which may come (partially or completely) from the upstream |

Hi publiccode.yml folks,
A lot of repositories that are listed on https://oss.developer.overheid.nl use tags on gitlab or github. We show them as well in our catalogue.
In the future we are planning on building our catalogue "publiccode.yml"-first. Thus it should be possible to add the tags that are currently set via gitlab or github, in the publiccode.yml file. I would like to introduce a "tags" property where tags(any string), can be set. I would suggest formatting the strings in Kebab Case. This creates a situation where the codebases are agnostic of the platforms they are hosted on (github/ gitlab).
I wonder what you guys think about this. I think it turns the standard into a solution for making repositories more Git-platform agnostic.
