Dependency on `traittypes`

We use ipytablewidgets as dependency of ipyvega. However this repo depends on traittypes, which does not seem to be maintained. Would it be possible to remove that dependency?

Unless I'm mistaken, the only part where traittypes are used in this repo is here. It only uses the SciType class of traittypes. The SciType class seems to be quite small.

Would you folks be amenable to considering a PR implementing a version of that in this repo and removing the dependency?
