No pressure data on iPhone 12 mini

I have an iPhone 12 mini running iOS 18.4 and am running phyphox 1.1.16 (build 11317)

On my phone, phyphox does not show any raw data from the barometer, even though it appears it should have one according to https://support.apple.com/en-us/111876 . No graph is shown, and no single value is shown when the "Pressure" experiment is started.

Interestingly, phyphox reports the device as being an "iPhone 13,1" instead of an iPhone 12 mini. Maybe this is relevant.

Let's start with the simple one: iPhone 13,1 is just Apple's device code for iPhone 12 Mini (see for example here). The version codes just don't align with the market names :)

but indeed, it should of course show pressure data. I don't think there has been an Apple device since the first iPhone SE that does not have a pressure sensor.

I suspect that this is related to iOS 18 requiring the "Motion & Fitness" permission to access the pressure sensor. When starting a pressure measurement for the first time, phyphox should have asked for that premission. Do you remember if such a request popped up? (Asking for "Motion & Fitness" in this case is very unintuitive, don't ask me why Apple did it this way.)

In any case, please check the app settings for phyphox to see if the "Motion & Fitness" permission is enabled and if not, please enable it and try again.

phyphox did not ask me for permission to access Motion&Fitness. It turns out this was because Fitness Tracking was completely turned off on my phone (Settings > Privacy & Security > Motion & Fitness > Fitness Tracking on iOS 18.4). Somehow phyphox did not detect this situation, leaving the user a bit in the dark about why the pressure experiment wasn't working.

After uninstalling phyphox, turning Fitness Tracking on, and reinstalling phyphox, phyphox asked me for permission, and now the pressure experiment works fine.

Regarding the internal device name (iPhone13,1) vs the public name (iPhone 12 mini), would it be possible to display both? This might reduce user confusion.

Thanks for the feedback. @GTripathee already put a better feedback on his todo list for the case when permissions are missing and phyphox cannot simply request the permission. Good to know that turning of fitness tracking entirely is an edge case that we need to check, too. (Although I am still scratching my head about this design...)
