While we are not explicitly working on the Voicing Response System, I want to capture design improvements based on what we know so far and what we might find as we move forward:
- WCAG compliance question: to be technically compliant with WCAG A SC 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value, the Voicing Response System would need a 4th Sim Voicing Option for "Role."
- a few blind users did indicate through direct and indirect comments that they expected to hear roles, like "button" or "checkbox." E.g., paraphrasing from an interview, "Space worked, but Enter key did not," when interacting with a checkbox. All blind users interviewed with a working Voicing feature had little to no trouble beyond an extra keypress here or there to successfully explore sim objects implemented as native HTML elements like buttons, checkboxes, radio buttons and sliders.
- Visualized text for Voicing Responses - users requested the option to show the voiced content on the screen - this was especially true for the Sim Overview and Current Details button in the Voicing Tool bar. This enhancement would/could be similar to the way Mac has design VoiceOver.
I'll add to this issue as I can.
