Notification plugins #277

Dear osTicket developers,
I have seen many non-official notification plugins for osTicket itself. Currently, I am testing a rocket.chat notification integration, but it doesn't matter to my question.
Does the osTicket support notification that is not email related at all? I can see the email update works as expected, and I wish to see it as an alternative notification. However, I cannot see even any option or reference about it.
So my general question would be whether alternative notification systems should work with the current 1.8x osTicket architecture or it doesn't support it, so it requires more code change than introducing a notification plugin?
