Camera controls: changing Position causes view of the scene to change, but changing view of scene with mouse does not change Camera Position

If I select the Camera and change its Position, then the view quickly moves to a different location. So it seems like I am viewing the scene from this Camera. However, using the mouse to change the view does not affect the Position of the Camera. Is the view of the scene from the Camera?

The current behavior is correct, navigating the scene with mouse buttons changes where the camera is looking at but does not change camera position. If you'd prefer to have the default camera position hidden/undisplayed please indicate and we can discuss.

I think I'm confused. Perhaps changing the Position of the camera (by typing in a number) should not affect the view?

The reason of the confusion is likely that you're thinking in Screen coordinates not World/Scene coordinates. If you use one of the standard buttons (e.g. Front of model = +x) then change the X coordinate of the camera then you'll see the model gets closer/farther as expected.
