How to integrate a temperature corrected sensor into the climate component

I have created a sensor (in ESPHome config), that computes the theermostat temperature, in F, as per the Mitsubishi table. My question now is: How do I tell the climate component presented by ESPHome to use this sensor instead of the standard converted temperature.

If this is not possible, is it then necessary to setup a completely separate climite entry in HA?

The MITP climate component always sends the actual "current temperature" (and set point) as reported by the heat pump.

It might be possible to use climate.on_state to try to modify the state of the climate component before it publishes to HA, but I'm not sure if this is a) possible, or b) might not have some weird side-effects because you're modifying the state part way through the state being changed.

If you want a climate component that shows a temperature other than what's being reported by the heat pump, I do think a separate wrapping climate component is the way to go (probably using the Thermostat Climate Controller). This would also allow you to properly convert the setpoint on its way out so that the setpoint and current temp are using the same scale. You can see an example of that component being used in the dual setpoint docs.

You can mark the MITP climate component internal: true to hide it from Home Assistant after you have another one available.
