        <p>Today was the first day of Alpha's brand new Accelerated Computer Science Elective course.
        I could not be more excited to be working with the super dedicated and talented students who have
        elected to take this course. These students represent some of the most dedicated to their education
        and to the STEAM subject area that I have ever had the pleasure of working with.</p>
        <p>During this first class, we talked a little bit about the course and did an activity that I
        really enjoy doing with students. We played the balloon game! Essentially, students are given 10
        minutes, a bunch of balloons, and some masking tape and are asked to build the tallest balloon tower
        possible. The twist is, even though students are broken up into groups at the beginning, they are
        never told that they are expliciting competing against each other. The only thing they are told are
        the instructions that are available at this link: <a href="https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/18XG1NQzjgTt_I_1goRbgkczyNBsb37iIUM1r4ARBPaw/edit?usp=sharing">Balloon Game</a></p>
        <p>This gives an awesome opportunity to talk about the importance of always asking questions to really
        understand the problem you are trying to solve and to break down the walls and think and act outside of
        the box. It also allows for an oppotunity to show that we can accomplish so much more when we work together.
        Working separately, the teams were only able to build a tower that was 57 inches tall in 10 minutes.
        But when working all together, they were able to make an 86 inch tower in only 5 extra minutes.</p>
        <p>As I've said, I am super excited to work with these students. We will be starting to work through
        Harvard/Yale's CS50 course on EdX starting on Monday. It's going to be a ton of work, but we are
        going to learn so much and grow so quickly that it ain't no thang!</p>
