Could not download any whisper models

Hi, nice work here. I've been looking for a long time for a Linux-native speech to text tool.

I was able to download the Coqui and April-ASR models. April is pretty good but I was hoping to try a slower, higher accuracy model. But I'm unable to download any of the whisper based models. I can see that dsnote is sending requests through the network interface, but nothing is coming back (0 b/sec). Eventually the app just says that the download failed.

All of the affected models seem to be hosted at huggingface.co. When I ping this server I do get replies, so the server is not down.

I can use it for now with the April model so this isn't very urgent -- but advertised models seem unavailable so I thought I would let you know.

(BTW I live in mainland china if that makes a difference. I've tried both with and without a VPN -- failed in both cases.)

A bit more information:

I could use uGet to download https://huggingface.co/mukowaty/ggml-whisper/resolve/743aa7db6f450897766b2a213e62f651d1f7a5fe/en/ggml-distilled-large-v3-en-q5_0.bin -- so the file is available, but dsnote can't download it. Maybe it's issuing the request in a way that the server doesn't like?

So ggml-distilled-large-v3-en-q5_0.bin now exists in /home/xxx/.var/app/net.mkiol.SpeechNote/cache/net.mkiol/dsnote/speech-models.

Then I tried to follow the custom models instructions, but it wasn't recognized (--gen-checksums did nothing to the models.json file, and the model didn't appear in any menus).

For giggles, I tried clicking the download button for the same model again -- and the download failed instantly. I.e.:

• Before manually downloading the file: it looks like it's trying to connect but nothing ever comes back (for an indefinite amount of time).
• After manually downloading: the "download" button in the interface fails immediately and doesn't register the model. (Actually now it always does this for any huggingface.co model, whether a file exists on my HD for it or not.)

Current status for me, then, is that the models which appear to be the most advanced are all unavailable.
