Adaptive favicon doesn't work on NTP

My Blank New Tab extension features an adaptive favicon using <link> media attribute with prefers-color-scheme. With Edge 143, the adaptive favicon no longer works on NTP. Tested on 2 computers. When i directly open the same HTML file, it works. From extension, it does not.

Works on Chrome.

Hi @szanuj could you please share a demo extension along with the steps to reproduce the issue? This will help me investigate further and provide you with an appropriate resolution.

Seems in general the extension can not even override the default favicon displayed by the browser no matter dark or light theme.

Oh... that's true. Just tried an extension with a different favicon and it doesn't override the builtin icon at all.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install extension.
2. Enable it.
3. Open New tab.

Expected behavior: favicon on NTP comes from extension.

Actual behavior: favicon on NTP is the builtin Edge New tab icon in black.

Hi @szanuj the issue does occurs on my side in the latest version of Edge. I’ve shared the details with the team to help resolve it. In the meantime, could you please provide the link to the Chrome version of your extension or the demo extension so I can test it in Chrome and compare the expected behavior?

@Rahul-Bauri thanks. My extension and demo extension are not published on chrome web store so for mine you would have to follow readme instructions and load unpacked:

To install in a different Chromium-based browser:

• Download the contents of this repo.
• Enable Developer mode in your browser's Manage Extensions page.
• Select "Load unpacked" and choose the src folder.

Or try this one: https://github.com/yuhaofe/Blank-New-Tab-Page---White-Smoke, which is published on both extension stores. Favicon doesn't work in Edge.
