Do I have to purchase the X12 guidelines from ASC X12 if I want to use the BizTalk X12\HIPAA schemas in a custom project ?

Edit: I noticed the pdf note but also this announcement from a while back:

The two obviously contradict with each other, so it's still unclear.

Hi Bill,

If you have appropriately licensed BizTalk and the components that include X12's IP in them, no, you do not need to purchase X12's guides or other work products. But, if you have not purchased and therefore, licensed BizTalk, you should purchase a license from X12.

That said, you may find it very useful when implementing software to produce or consume X12 transactions, to have X12's guides.

Thank you Andrew, but I would appreciate a comment from someone from Microsoft.

All EDI schemas are annotated with a copyright notice, perhaps different year here and there, but the notice is something like "Copyright (c) 2004, Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.".

All X12 schemas are still published under the MIT license, although were removed from the master branch. Are they going to be merged back to the master branch and can we still use them under the MIT license ?
